Project Management Statement
Mission Statement
To provide insight from an IT perspective, as workplace habits and norms are changing influenced by the growing proportion of technology savvy younger generations in the workforce.
Research Background
Gen Y will eventually become the majority workforce in enterprises worldwide. Their values and traits are very different from the previous generations; and they utilise technology as an enabler more intensively, spontaneous and interactive, and rather informal.
The abovementioned characteristics impacts significantly on how IT will be managed in the future. Concepts like blogs, wikis, and communities (social networks) have made their way into the enterprise partly because of Gen Y influence. They demand to play an active role, and they want to be heard. These new technologies provide them a medium to contribute.
An innovative enterprise will look beyond the trends, and cater for the changing paradigm to get the most out of their younger workforce. When enterprises foster internal social network, how will it transform work and communication? There are a lot of unexplored avenue, and the intention is that this research will answer some of the questions and provide a glimpse of the road that lies ahead in the next 5 to 10 years.
Research Objectives
The study will provide an insight on how these new workplace trends affects the contemporary IT management. The study is comprised of two major parts;
- Insight into the younger generation’s characteristics in relation to IT
